About Colias meadii Edwards, 1871

Colias meadii, commonly known as Mead's sulphur, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Pieridae, native to North America. Its distribution range covers the Rocky Mountains in both Canada and the United States. The flight period of this butterfly occurs from July to August. It lives in arctic-alpine tundra and rocky slopes, located in high mountain regions at or close to tree lines. The wingspan of adults ranges from 35 to 44 mm. Larvae of this species feed on plants of the genus Trifolium, along with Astragalus alpinus, Oxytropis deflexa, and Vicia americana. Adult Mead's sulphur butterflies feed on flower nectar from alpine sunflowers and asters.
