About Colias gigantea Strecker, 1900

Colias gigantea, commonly known as the giant sulphur or giant northern sulfur, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Pieridae. It is found in North America, with a range extending from Alaska across Canada to the east coast, and also includes the US states of Wyoming, Montana, and Oregon. Adults are active from June to early August. This species lives in tundra and willow bog habitats. Its wingspan measures 37 to 55 millimetres, which equals 1.5 to 2.2 inches. Larvae of Colias gigantea feed on plants from the genus Salix, while adult butterflies feed on flower nectar.
