The Yucatán banded gecko, whose scientific name is Coleonyx elegans Gray, 1845, is a species of gecko found in Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize. It is a common resident of forested and open habitats across the Yucatan Peninsula. This terrestrial gecko is largely nocturnal. It feeds on invertebrates including spiders, crickets, and beetles. It is non-venomous and harmless, even though many local people deeply fear and avoid it.
