About Coleonyx brevis Stejneger, 1893

Texas banded geckos (Coleonyx brevis) are small terrestrial lizards that rarely grow longer than 4 inches (10 centimeters). Their bodies have alternating bands of yellow, paired with brown or pink, and these bands are generally accented with black; some individuals also have varying levels of black speckling across their bodies. Hatchlings and juvenile Texas banded geckos have a distinct banded pattern, which becomes more mottled as the gecko reaches adulthood. This species is distributed in the United States across western Texas and southeastern New Mexico, and in Mexico across the states of Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Durango. It prefers semi-arid habitats, and is most often found around rock piles or canyon crevices.
