About Coleataenia longifolia (Torr.) Soreng
Coleataenia longifolia (Torr.) Soreng is a grass species in the family Poaceae, native to North America. One of its subspecies, Coleataenia longifolia subsp. elongata, is listed as a special concern species in Connecticut, where it is believed to be extirpated. The species as a whole is distributed across the southern and eastern United States. Subspecies C. longifolia subsp. cobsii occurs primarily along the edge of the Coastal Plain, ranging from Massachusetts to Florida, and extending west to Louisiana. The other subspecies, C. longifolia subsp. longifolia, is found across the rest of the species’ native range. The United States Department of Agriculture classifies this species as a facultative upland species. While it grows most commonly in non-wetland habitats, it can also be found in low woods, cypress savannas, and depression meadows.
