Cojoba arborea (L.) Britton & Rose reaches 15โ18 meters (49โ59 feet) in height, with a trunk that can grow up to 50 centimeters (20 inches) in diameter. Mature fruits are curved reddish-purple pods that measure 13โ17 centimeters (5.1โ6.7 inches) long. Each pod contains 4 to 6 ellipsoidal seeds, which are black, white, or a combination of both colors. The leaves of this species are alternate and bipinnate, reaching 28โ42 centimeters (11โ17 inches) in total length. Each leaf holds 8โ16 pairs of non-serrated, elliptical leaflets. Individual leaflets average 4โ6 centimeters (1.6โ2.4 inches) long and 0.2 centimeters (0.079 inches) wide. Its hermaphroditic white flower inflorescences are 0.6โ0.9 centimeters (0.24โ0.35 inches) long, and grow from peduncles that measure 5โ10 centimeters (2.0โ3.9 inches) long. Cojoba arborea flowers from April to June.
