Coenobita spinosus, scientifically named Coenobita spinosus H.Milne-Edwards, 1837, is one of the sixteen known species of terrestrial hermit crabs. Its range covers Polynesian islands, Melanesia, Micronesia, the Mariana Islands, the northern coast of Australia, New Caledonia, Wallis and Futuna, and Henderson Island in the Pitcairn Islands. On Henderson Island, it has been observed using plastic debris for protection. This species primarily lives in forests and wetlands, but can also be found on beaches and in lagoons.
