About Codonocarpus cotinifolius (Desf.) F.Muell.
Codonocarpus cotinifolius (Desf.) F.Muell. is a tall shrub or tree that belongs to the plant family Gyrostemonaceae. It occurs across all mainland states of Australia, including Victoria, and is widespread across Australian arid regions. This species is suspected to be toxic to livestock. It goes by the common name native poplar in New South Wales and Western Australia, and bell-fruit tree in Victoria. This species was first formally described in 1822 by René Louiche Desfontaines under the name Gyrostemon cotinifolium. In 1862, Ferdinand von Mueller reclassified it into the genus Codonocarpus.
