About Coccyzus pumilus Strickland, 1852
The dwarf cuckoo, a bird species with the scientific name Coccyzus pumilus Strickland, 1852 that is also referred to as Coccycua pumila, is a tropical American member of the cuckoo family Cuculidae. This species was formerly classified in either the genus Coccyzus or the genus Micrococcyx. After researchers discovered that it belongs to a distinct evolutionary lineage centered on the little cuckoo, the genus Coccycua was reinstated to include this group of birds. The dwarf cuckoo can be found in Brazil, Colombia, Panama, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forest, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, and heavily degraded former forest.
