About Cnaemidophorus rhododactyla (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775)
This species of plume moth has the scientific name Cnaemidophorus rhododactyla (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775). Its eggs hatch in the autumn. After hatching, the larvae first feed on rose leaves, and overwinter as young larvae, most likely inside rose stems. In May, the larvae resume feeding: they continue to eat leaves, and also consume flower buds and open flowers. Adult moths fly during July and August, and are attracted to light. They are one of the most distinctively marked of all plume moths, with a wingspan measuring 18–26 mm. Confirmed larval foodplants for this species include Japanese rose (Rosa rugosa), dog-rose (Rosa canina), glaucous dog rose (Rosa dumalis), burnet rose (Rosa spinosissima), and Rosa subcanina.
