About Clusia clusioides (Griseb.) D' Arcy
Clusia clusioides is a species of flowering plant in the family Clusiaceae. It is a small tree native to Puerto Rico and Hispaniola. One of its distinguishing characteristics is its opposite, very thick leaves. This species is very common in dwarf or elfin forests at elevations above approximately 2,500 feet (760 m), particularly in areas that get abundant light, for example, next to service roads in Puerto Rico's El Yunque rain forest. The tree's smooth, gray bark is sometimes covered with mosses and other epiphytes, including orchids.
