About Clossiana polaris (Boisduval, 1829)
Clossiana polaris (Boisduval, 1829) has a wingspan of 32–38 mm. This species, also referenced as A. polaris Bsd. (71e), is similar to the preceding species C. freija, but is more variable. The underside of its hindwing is more variegated. The black median band on the upperside of the forewing is heavy, deep black, and deeply sinuous along its proximal edge. The marginal area has regular rows of submarginal spots. The underside of the forewing has black markings almost as distinct as those on the upperside, but is paler in tone. On the underside of the hindwing, the basal area has a mother-of-pearl ground marking; the narrow band that separates the central area from the marginal area bears silvery teeth. It occurs in Norway, Finland, and Lapponia. It can be seen in flight from July to August in these regions, and flies from June to August overall depending on location.
