About Climacteris picumnus Temminck, 1824
This species, Climacteris picumnus Temminck, 1824, has the following physical description. Adult birds measure approximately 16.5 centimeters (6.5 inches) in length, have a wingspan of 26 centimeters (10 inches), and weigh an average of around 31.5 grams (1.11 ounces). Adult plumage is light grey-brown on the upper body, with a light grey face and neck, darker grey on the crown, and dark ear-coverts. Adults have a prominent, pale supercilium, while juveniles have a grey, indistinct supercilium. The throat ranges from cream to white, and the breast is pale brown. The lower breast is marked with fine black-grey and white streaks. A dark wing-bar is visible when the bird is in flight. The sexes of this species differ in plumage: the uppermost breast of the male has black and white streaking, while the female has rufous and white streaking. Juvenile plumage differs from adult plumage; juvenile hind-neck, nape, crown, and forehead are darker than those of adult males. The species' call is described as "spink spink".
