About Climacocystis borealis (Fr.) Kotl. & Pouzar
Climacocystis borealis is both a saprophyte and a secondary pathogen that causes heart rot in the roots and bole of host trees. Its fruiting bodies attach directly to wood, usually growing as individual brackets, though they are sometimes fused together. The caps are whitish to yellowish, measuring 5โ15 centimetres (2โ6 in) wide and 2โ5 cm (3โ4โ2 in) thick, and no stipe is present. Its whitish flesh is juicy closer to the cap margins. The spore print of this fungus is white. Climacocystis borealis is widely distributed, with recorded occurrences in Eurasia, Oceania, and North America. Within China, it has been found in Shanxi, Guangdong, Sichuan, and Tibet. It grows on the base of conifer trees. This species is not edible for humans.
