About Clematis microphylla DC.

Clematis microphylla DC., commonly called Small-leaved Clematis, is one of eight Clematis species native to Australia. It grows in all Australian states and the Australian Capital Territory, but does not occur in the Northern Territory. This is a common, quick-growing climbing species with small leaves, that prefers full sun and good drainage. It is very frost tolerant, able to withstand temperatures as low as -5 degrees Celsius. There are two recognized variants of this species. Clematis microphylla var. microphylla has leaves that are over 20 mm long and 3 mm wide. Clematis microphylla var. leptophylla has leaves that are less than 20 mm long and 3 mm wide, and it is a medium-sized climber. This species produces cream-green flowers through spring, followed by bearded fruit.
