About Claytonia cordifolia S.Watson

Claytonia cordifolia S.Watson is a wildflower species in the Montiaceae family, commonly called heartleaf springbeauty. This species is native to western North America, ranging from British Columbia to Utah, where it grows in shallow lakes, streams, springs, and wetlands including bogs and fens, as documented by Miller and Chambers (2006). It is a perennial herb that grows from a long, budding rhizome, and produces an erect stem that can reach up to 40 centimeters in height. Its basal leaves have oval blades up to 9 centimeters long, with heart-shaped bases where they connect to their long petioles. A pair of additional oval-shaped leaves grows at the midpoint of the stem. Its stalked inflorescence holds up to 12 small flowers, each with five white petals that are roughly one centimeter long.
