Clausena excavata Burm.fil. is an evergreen shrub species in the Rutaceae family, native to Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. It typically grows to a height of 1 to 2 metres (3 ft 3 in to 6 ft 7 in). This plant has a number of common names, including pink lime-berry, cama, cemama, cemamar, cerek, cerek hitam, kemantu hitam, secerek, semeru, and suntang hitam. For uses, its leaves are added to Southeast Asian cooking, and give off a curry-like scent when crushed. The berries of Clausena excavata are also edible, with an anise flavour. Medicinally, the plant is described as astringent, bitter, and emmenagogue, and is considered a tonic for digestive issues. One confirmed phytochemical found in this plant is lichexanthone.
