About Claopodium crispifolium (Hook.) Renauld & Cardot
Claopodium crispifolium, commonly known as crispleaf roughmoss, is a species of moss that belongs to the family Leskeaceae. This moss is an epiphyte that grows on trees, and it is native to North America. It is most commonly found along the western coast of North America. Beyond its native range, it has also been observed in Japan, western Russia, and China. Within North America, the species has been recorded in the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and Alberta, and in the U.S. states of Alaska, California, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. C. crispifolium most often grows epiphytically on trees, but it can also grow on boulders, cliffs, and fallen logs. It only very rarely grows on soil as a terrestrial plant. It prefers shaded, moist environments, and typically grows at elevations near sea level.
