About Clanculus jussieui (Payraudeau, 1826)
This species is a sea snail with the scientific name Clanculus jussieui (Payraudeau, 1826). The shell of this species reaches a maximum height of 11 mm, and a maximum diameter of 14 mm. The umbilicate shell has a depressed-globose conic shape. The shell surface is polished and shining; the shell color ranges from blackish, olive to purplish brown. Shells may be unicolored, dotted with white, or tessellated with white. Often, short white markings shaped like flames are present beneath the sutures, and the area around the umbilicus always has more or less distinct white markings. The spire is conical. The sutures are simple and impressed. This species has 5 to 6 convex whorls. The upper shell surface is marked with obsolete lines that are frequently almost imperceptible, and the interstices between these lines have fine spiral striae. The base of the shell is smoother, and has faint concentric markings around the center. The aperture is rounded. The outer and basal margins are crenulated on the inner side. The columella has a small tooth at its upper end and another small tooth at its lower end; it is concave between the two teeth, extends deeply into the umbilicus, and is inserted on the edge of the umbilicus. The umbilicus is rather deep, smooth on the inside, and bordered by an irregularly crenulated rib. This species occurs in the Mediterranean Sea and in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Portugal.
