About Clamator levaillantii (Swainson, 1829)
This species of cuckoo, Clamator levaillantii, reaches a length of 37.5 cm (15 inches). It has a longer tail and more heavily streaked throat than the pied cuckoo. This species has two distinct colour morphs. The light morph has black upperparts with a faint bluish or greenish gloss. Streaking on the throat may extend onto the sides of the body. The primaries and tips of the rectrices are white. The dark morph is entirely black except for a white patch on the primaries and white spots on the outer tail feathers; these white markings are not present in the dark morph of the pied cuckoo. Juvenile Levaillant's cuckoos have brown upperparts, with rufous colouring on the wing-coverts and rectrix tips. They have buff colouring on the forehead, face, and underparts, and more pronounced streaking on the throat. The species' call consists of a low ringing kuwu-weer, kuwu-weer..., as well as an excited ku-wi-wi-wi.
