About Cladonia uncialis (L.) Weber ex F.H.Wigg.

Cladonia uncialis (L.) Weber ex F.H.Wigg. is a species of fruticose cup lichen that belongs to the family Cladoniaceae. Carl Linnaeus, a Swedish taxonomist, first published it as a new species in 1753. Friedrich Heinrich Wiggers later transferred the species to the genus Cladonia in 1780. In North America, this lichen has the common colloquial names thorn Cladonia and thorn cup lichen. Cladonia uncialis acts as a host for Lichenopeltella uncialicola, a lichenicolous fungus species that is named after C. uncialis.
