About Cittura cyanotis (Temminck, 1824)
This species has the typical shape of a kingfisher, with a short tail and a long bill. The adult male of Cittura cyanotis has a brown crown and back, and a rufous rump and tail. It features a blue eye mask that is separated from the crown by a white line, and a pale lilac ruff made of long, stiffened ear covert feathers. Its underparts are white, and its wings are blue, with a white line separating the wings from the brown back. The bill is red, large, and flattened. When in flight, its underwings are white with a black "wrist" patch. Its call is a rapid ku-ku-ku-ku.
