About Cistothorus platensis stellaris (J.F.Naumann, 1823)
Cistothorus platensis stellaris, first described by J.F. Naumann in 1823, is a subspecies of grass wren. This bird measures 10 to 10.5 cm (3.9 to 4.1 in) in length. Its upperparts are buffy brown, with black and buffy whitish streaks on the back. The wings and tail have dusky bands, and most of its underparts are buffy. The grass wren has a discontinuous distribution. Its range runs from central Mexico south through Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua into Costa Rica. It is also found in every mainland South American country except French Guiana and Suriname, as well as on the Falkland Islands. Habitat use differs by region: in Colombia and Ecuador, the grass wren lives in moist grassy and sedgy sections of paramo, clearings, agricultural areas, and interandean valleys. In Brazil, it inhabits cerrado, grassland, and marshes.
