The wailing cisticola, scientifically named Cisticola lais (Hartlaub & Finsch, 1870), is a bird species belonging to the family Cisticolidae. It is distributed across Angola, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical high-altitude grassland. Lynes's cisticola, which occurs in Uganda, Kenya, and northern Tanzania, is sometimes classified as a subspecies of the wailing cisticola. The eggs of this species show wide variation in appearance; they can be white, pale blue, spotted, or streaked.
