Cirsium mexicanum DC., commonly known as Mexican thistle, is a plant species belonging to the tribe Cardueae of the family Asteraceae. It is native to the Mesoamerican and Caribbean region. This species has a wide distribution: it occurs across multiple states and regions of Mexico including Tamaulipas, Durango, Jalisco, Puebla, Hidalgo, Veracruz, Tabasco, Oaxaca, Chiapas, and the Yucatán Peninsula; it is also found in all 7 countries of Central America, and in the West Indies on Cuba, Hispaniola, and Puerto Rico.
