About Cirsium erisithales (Jacq.) Scop.
Cirsium erisithales (Jacq.) Scop. is a flowering plant that grows to a height of 50–150 centimetres (20–59 inches). Its stems are erect and almost hairless. This species produces only a small number of leaves, which have tooth-shaped lobes. Its flower heads are lemon yellow; they can grow singly or in clusters of up to 5 heads, and have a diameter of 25–30 millimetres (0.98–1.18 inches).
This species is widespread across southern and eastern Europe, but it is not very abundant anywhere in its range. It can be found in mountain regions of France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, Ukraine, the Balkans, Greece, and southern Russia, among other areas.
Cirsium erisithales grows in fresh beech woodlands, rocky slopes, meadows, and along water edges. It prefers calcareous or volcanic soils, and grows at elevations between 400 and 2,000 metres (1,300–6,600 feet) above sea level.
