About Cipocereus minensis (Werderm.) F.Ritter

Cipocereus minensis (Werderm.) F.Ritter is a columnar cactus that grows as a branching shrub. It has green, columnar shoots that can reach up to 2 meters in height. Its stems are 2 to 5 centimeters in diameter, with 10 to 15 ribs and around 20 spines total. The round areoles are covered in white or brownish wool. From these areoles grow greyish-white or yellowish thorns that darken as they age. This cactus has 1 to 4 prominent central spines, and occasionally more, which grow up to 2.5 centimeters long. It also has 8 to 16 radial spines that measure 1 to 2 centimeters in length. Its nocturnal flowers are greenish-white, growing up to 7 centimeters long and 3 centimeters in diameter. After flowering, it produces ripe fruit that is blue, spherical, and smooth. This cactus species is endemic to Minas Gerais, Brazil.
