About Cinclus schulzii Cabanis, 1882

The rufous-throated dipper, also called the Argentine dipper, has the scientific name Cinclus schulzii. It is an aquatic songbird that belongs to the dipper family, and is found in South America. It inhabits fast-flowing rocky streams in the Southern Andean Yungas, located in extreme southern Bolivia and northwestern Argentina, at elevations between 800 metres and 2500 metres. This species breeds in the alder zone at elevations ranging from 1500 metres to 2500 metres. BirdLife International has classified Cinclus schulzii as a Vulnerable species. Threats to the species include reservoir construction, hydroelectric dams, and irrigation projects. Its current total population is estimated to be between 3,000 and 4,000 individuals.
