About Cinclus leucocephalus Tschudi, 1844

The white-capped dipper (scientific name Cinclus leucocephalus Tschudi, 1844) measures 15โ€“16.5 cm (5.9โ€“6.5 in) in length and weighs 38โ€“59 g (1.3โ€“2.1 oz). Males and females have similar appearances, though males are slightly larger than females. The nominate subspecies has a white nape and crown marked with fine dark brown streaks; the rest of its upperparts are dark brown. Its throat is white, while the remainder of its underparts are dark brown. This subspecies has a black bill and dark grey legs. The subspecies rivularis is paler than the nominate subspecies and has fine grey spots on its throat. The subspecies leuconotus has a white belly and a large white patch on the upper back.
