The scientific name of this species is Cilnia humeralis Saussure, 1871, and it is commonly known as the wide-armed mantis. It is an aggressive, highly cannibalistic praying mantis species native to Africa. A breeder based in Great Britain has described C. humeralis as a very stockily built species with huge forelegs, and stated it is possibly the most powerful and aggressive mantis species they have kept.
