About Cibdela janthina (Klug, 1834)

Cibdela janthina (Klug, 1834) is a sawfly that belongs to the family Argidae. This species is native to Sumatra, which is located in South-East Asia. In 2007, it was introduced to La Réunion to carry out biological pest control against Rubus alceifolius, an invasive Rosaceae species. Cibdela janthina has a metallic dark-blue coloration. Males of this species reach an approximate length of 8 mm, while females grow to around 9.5 mm. A known parasitoid of C. janthina is the species Proterops borneoensis.
