This species, scientifically named Chrysosplenium americanum Schwein. ex Hook., has distinct vegetative and generative characteristics, and a defined habitat range. Vegetatively, its stolons measure between 0.3 and 1 millimeters wide. Generatively, its androecium is made up of 8 stamens that bear red anthers. The fruits of this species produce between 6 and 16 brown seeds, which range in shape from spherical to ovoid. This plant grows in wet habitats, occurring along streams in forested areas as well as in swamps.
