Scientific name: Chrysopilus asiliformis (Preyssler, 1791)

Adult flies of this species reach a body length of 6–9 millimetres (0.24–0.35 in). This fragile-looking species has a slender body. The head, thorax, and abdomen are covered in grey dusting, with dark stripes running along the abdomen, and the body has no bristles. Its legs are quite long and thin, with brownish-yellow femora. The wings are clear, with a distinct, well-defined dark pterostigma, and the eyes are greenish.

This is a widespread species that occurs across most of Europe. It can live in a variety of environments, including scrubland, woodland edges, wetlands, and gardens.
