About Chrysopa perla (Linnaeus, 1758)

Adult Chrysopa perla reach a body length of 10โ€“12 millimetres (0.39โ€“0.47 in), with a wingspan of 25โ€“30 millimetres (0.98โ€“1.18 in). The basic body coloration of this species is green, and its wings are blue-green with black veins. Both the body and wings turn pale yellow during winter. Several black markings appear on the head, thorax, and the underside of the abdomen, and the second antennal segment is black. Chrysopa perla is quite similar to Chrysopa dorsalis, but differs in the shape of the pale spot between its eyes: this spot is oval in C. dorsalis and roundish in C. perla. This is a widespread species that can be found in most of Europe and in the temperate zones of Asia. Chrysopa perla prefers cool, shady areas, and occurs mainly in deciduous woods, wet forests, woodland edges, hedge rows, scrubby grassland, and shrubs.
