About Chrysomus icterocephalus (Linnaeus, 1766)

The yellow-hooded blackbird, scientifically known as Chrysomus icterocephalus, is a bird species that belongs to the Icteridae family. It inhabits grassy and brushy areas located near water in northern South America, and it is generally fairly common across this range. This species exhibits sexual dimorphism, and the males and females of the yellow-hooded blackbird resemble the corresponding sexes of the larger North American yellow-headed blackbird. One key difference is that male yellow-hooded blackbirds do not have white markings on their wings. In 2007, a single yellow-hooded blackbird was discovered in the Darien Lowlands of Panama. This individual was a rare vagrant, most likely originating from Colombia.
