About Chrysogaster solstitialis (Fallén, 1817)

Chrysogaster solstitialis was first described by Fallén in 1817. This species reaches a wing length of 6 to 7.25 millimeters. Its antennae are reddish in color. When viewed from the front, the distance between its eyes is at most equal to the width of one eye. Its wings have a blackish tinge. The female thorax displays purplish reflections. Illustrations of the male genitalia of this species were published by Maibach, A. & Goeldlin de Tiefenau in 1994, and the larva was illustrated by Rotheray in 1993. This species belongs to the Palaearctic realm. Its distribution extends from Fennoscandia southward to Iberia, the Mediterranean basin, and North Africa. It ranges from Ireland eastward across Europe into the European parts of Russia, Ukraine, and the Caucasus mountains.
