About Chrysaora fulgida (Reynaud, 1830)
Chrysaora fulgida, commonly known as the Benguela compass jelly, is a species of jellyfish that belongs to the family Pelagiidae. This species is found in the southeastern Atlantic Ocean, along the western coast of South Africa, a region influenced by the Benguela Current. Historically, the taxonomy of Chrysaora fulgida has been a source of considerable confusion. Like other sea nettles, its sting is painful, but it is not generally dangerous unless the person stung experiences an allergic reaction to its venom.
