About Chrysaora colorata (Russell, 1964)

This species of jellyfish, Chrysaora colorata, gets its common name from the purple stripes that develop on its bell. Juvenile individuals are pinkish, with long, dark maroon tentacles. As the jellyfish ages, the dark maroon color of the tentacles begins to fade. Purple stripes form on the bell, and the four frilly oral arms grow longer. Additionally, the tentacles thicken, the existing purple stripes darken, the tentacles become paler in appearance, and the oral arms tend to reduce or disappear.
