About Chromis chrysura (Bliss, 1883)
Chromis chrysura, commonly known as the stout chromis, is a diurnal damselfish species that belongs to the genus Chromis. This species has several geographically isolated populations. The first population occurs across Taiwan, the Ryukyu Islands, and southern Japan. The second is located in the Coral Sea, spanning New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji, and eastern Australia. The third is found in the western Indian Ocean, covering Mauritius and Réunion. The species is also present in the Philippines, and it may occur in India as well. Chromis chrysura lives on outer coral or rocky reefs. It typically forms large groups in shallow waters, and feeds on zooplankton. This species is oviparous; males of the species guard and aerate the eggs.
