About Chorizanthe xanti S.Watson

Chorizanthe xanti S.Watson is generally an erect plant that grows up to around 30 centimeters tall. It is reddish in color and covered with thin to dense hairs. Its inflorescence is a loose cluster of flowers, where each individual flower is surrounded by six reddish, curly-haired bracts that end in hooked awns. Each flower can be up to 6 millimeters wide, and ranges in color from pink to red. This species has two recognized varieties. The rarer variety, Chorizanthe xanti var. leucotheca, is only found in the San Jacinto and San Bernardino Mountains. It has a much more thickly woolly inflorescence than the more common variety of the species.
