About Chorizanthe pungens Benth.

Chorizanthe pungens Benth. grows primarily in coastal habitats, as well as on hills and mountains that overlook the coastline. This plant is generally erect, but may sometimes be spreading or prostrate, with stems reaching up to half a meter in length. Its color ranges from green to gray to red, and it usually has a hairy texture. Leaves are located at the base of the plant, and leaf-like bracts also grow along the stem at the bases of the plant's inflorescences. The inflorescence forms a dense cluster of flowers; each individual flower is surrounded by six white to pink hairy bracts that end in hooked awns. The flower itself is only a few millimeters wide, with jagged tepals.
