Chorizanthe douglasii Benth. is an erect herb that grows a hairy stem, reaching a maximum height of around half a meter. Its leaves grow up to 4 centimeters long. Most leaves are arranged around the base of the plant, and there is also a whorl of leaves halfway up the stem. The inflorescence is made up of clusters of flowers. Each individual flower is surrounded by six bracts that range in color from purple to bright pink, and all of these bracts may be fused together. The bracts have straight awns at their tips. The actual flower itself is 3 to 4 millimeters wide, and its color is either white or pink.
