About Choristoneura hebenstreitella (Müller, 1764)
Choristoneura hebenstreitella, commonly known as the mountain-ash tortricid, is a moth species belonging to the family Tortricidae. It is distributed in Western Europe, Central Europe, the Near East, and Iran. The wingspan of this moth ranges from 19 to 30 mm. The termen of its forewing is vertical and barely sinuate, and its costal fold is short, not extending to the base. The ground color of the forewing is light greyish-ochreous with a faint brownish tinge. The basal patch has a straight, oblique edge. The anterior edge of the central fascia is straight, and the fascia is almost broken above its middle. The costal patch is brown, and the hindwings are grey. Full-grown larvae are grey or olive-green, with white tubercular spots, a black head, and a brown second segment plate marked with blackish and having a white anterior edge. Julius von Kennel published a full description of this species. Adult moths are active from May to July. The larvae feed on plant species from the genera Betula, Malus, Prunus, Pyrus, and Quercus.
