This moth species is distributed across India, Sri Lanka, China including Amoy, Taiwan, the Moluccas, Japan, and eastern Australia, specifically the Northern Territory and Queensland. It has a wingspan of approximately 10 millimeters. The larvae of Choreutis ophiosema feed on plants belonging to the genus Bambusa (bamboo).
