About Chlosyne nycteis (Doubleday)

Chlosyne nycteis, commonly known as the silvery checkerspot, is a butterfly species belonging to the Nymphalinae subfamily that is native to North America. In the United States, it holds the status of a species of special concern in the states of Connecticut and Maine. It is also believed to have been extirpated from Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. The range of the silvery checkerspot extends from southern Canada in the north, southward to the U.S. states of Georgia, Florida, and Texas. This species prefers moist habitats including streamsides, and can also be found in meadows and forest openings.
