About Chlorurus bleekeri (de Beaufort, 1940)

Chlorurus bleekeri, commonly known as Bleeker's parrotfish, is a species of marine fish that belongs to the family Scaridae. It is widely distributed across the tropical waters of the central Indo-Pacific region. This is a medium-sized fish that can reach a maximum length of 49 centimeters, and males of this species are more colorful than females. Bleeker's parrotfish feeds primarily on filamentous algae; it uses its distinctive beak-like teeth to scrape algae off coral rubble and reef surfaces. Unlike some co-occurring fish, Chlorurus bleekeri has different food sources than nearby damselfish species, so the two do not compete directly for food.
