About Chloroclysta siterata (Hufnagel, 1767)

This species, Chloroclysta siterata, has a wingspan of 28–36 mm. The forewings are pointed, with a greyish green ground colour that carries a reddish tinge. Their dark central band may be replaced by dark wavy crosslines, and the species as a whole is very variable in appearance. The larva is very long and slender, with a slightly less slender thorax, and well-developed anal points. It is green overall; the thorax has a red dorsal line, each abdominal segment bears a red dorsal spot, and the legs and anal points have red tips. The slender pupa is yellow-brown with a delicate purple bloom, dotted with black, and has a darker cremaster. Adult Chloroclysta siterata are similar in appearance to the closely related autumn green carpet (Chloroclysta miata), but C. miata differs by having a pale central band, grey hindwings, and no red tinge. This species is distributed across the Palearctic region, from most of Europe east to Asia Minor and the Caucasus.
