About Chlorocebus cynosuros (Scopoli, 1786)

The malbrouck, scientifically named Chlorocebus cynosuros (Scopoli, 1786), is a slim, agile primate with long limbs and a long tail. Its fur is olive-grey, while the breast, underparts, cheeks, and eyebrows are white; these white facial features surround a bald, pale-blotched face. It has brown eyes, and its genitals are brightly colored: the male's scrotum is blue, and the penis is red. On average, males are approximately 20% larger than females. This primate is distributed across central and south-central Africa, with a range extending from the Albertine Rift in the Democratic Republic of Congo west to the Atlantic coast, and south to northern Namibia and Zambia that lies west of the Luangwa River. It inhabits marshy forest, savanna-forest, and montane forest, and can live at altitudes as high as 4,500 meters (14,750 feet).
