About Chlamydera guttata Gould, 1862
Chlamydera guttata, commonly known as the western bowerbird, is smaller than the great bowerbird, the other bowerbird species it shares its range with. This species measures 24 to 28 cm (9.4 to 11.0 in) in length and weighs 120 to 150 g (4.2 to 5.3 oz). Males and females are similar in overall size and dimensions, with the only difference being that females have a slightly longer tail. The western bowerbird's plumage is brown, marked with reddish or buff spots across the throat, chest, neck, back, head and wings, and it has a pink erectile crest on the nape. Its tail is brown, while its undersides are buff. Female plumage matches male plumage overall, but females have more spotting on the throat than males.
