Chiton squamosus Linnaeus, 1764 reaches a length of 50โ€“75 mm (2.0โ€“3.0 in). Its seven valves are dull ashen-gray, marked with irregular, wide, dull brown longitudinal stripes. The girdle has alternating pale stripes of grayish white and grayish green. This species is found in southeastern Florida and the West Indies. It lives on rocky coasts in wave-swept zones, at depths between 0 and 3 meters.
